Walsall have signed winger Reece Smith from Harrogate Town on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old is the club's 10th signing of the summer transfer window.
Smith featured in all but one of Harrogate's League Two games last season. He joined Harrogate from non-league Maidenhead United, where he came through the academy and spent four and a half seasons in the first team.
The winger appeared in Harrogate's 2-0 win at the Pallet-Track Stadium in the penultimate game of last season. His new contract includes a club option for a further 12 months.
Smith's reaction
Smith said his move to Walsall felt like "a big step up". He added that manager Lee Grant's plan to use him on the left or as a number 10 was "music to my ears".
Grant's assessment
Manager Lee Grant, who took charge in May, described the deal as "another coup" for the Saddlers. Grant said he had been keen to sign Smith for "a very long time".
What's next
Walsall begin the new campaign in the Carabao Cup at Bristol City on 6 August. They open their League Two programme away to Gillingham the following Saturday.
